Considering Couples Counselling?
When Couples Counselling May Be Helpful
People seek couples counselling for many different reasons. Sometimes it’s to manage ongoing tension or repeated conflict. At other times, it’s about navigating life changes together or improving communication. Some couples come with a clear concern they want to address. Others come because something feels off, even if they can’t fully explain it. Counselling offers space to slow things down, understand patterns between you, and relate to each other in healthier ways.
Signs Couples Counselling May Help:
- Ongoing tension or conflict
- Conversations going in circles
- Feeling disconnected from each other
- Healing after hurt or trust issues
- Adjusting to life changes or added stress
- Feeling unheard or misunderstood
- Ongoing resentment building
- Preparing for marriage or commitment
How I Work With My Clients
This short video explains how couples counselling works and what to expect in sessions. It outlines the focus of the work and how sessions are guided by both partners’ needs and pace.
Process
How Couples Counselling Works
Couples counselling offers a supportive space to explore what is happening in your relationship. Sessions are flexible and shaped around your needs as a couple. You do not need to arrive with clear goals. The focus develops as the work continues.
1. Initial Session
The first session focuses on understanding your relationship, why you’ve come to counselling, and what each partner hopes to work on together.
2. Exploring Patterns
We identify communication, emotional, and conflict patterns that shape your relationship, helping both partners gain insight and reduce blame.
3. Ongoing Sessions
Sessions adapt to what feels most relevant, focusing on communication, conflict, connection, or life changes affecting your relationship.
4. Reflection and Direction
We regularly review progress and decide together what ongoing support is helpful, whether short-term or longer-term.
