About Me
About Kaela Sussman
I am Kaela Sussman, an HPCSA Registered Counsellor. I completed my BPsych degree in 2018 and passed the board exam in 2019. Since then, I have worked in a range of settings, supporting individuals, couples, and organisations. Over time, this experience has continued to shape how I approach my work and how I hold the counselling space.
From early on, I was drawn to this work through a genuine interest in how people experience stress, change, and relationship challenges in everyday life. In particular, sitting with people during difficult moments, and supporting them to make sense of what they are carrying, remains central to how I work.
Above all, I value counselling that is thoughtful, steady, and respectful. For this reason, I believe people do best when they feel heard, supported, and not rushed.
In my work as a counsellor, I aim to be:
- Calm and grounded
- Present and attentive
- Respectful of pace and boundaries
- Clear, professional, and supportive
As a result, sessions are paced carefully and guided by what feels manageable. I offer counselling services in Sandton, Modderfontein, and online, and I look forward to welcoming you into a professional and supportive counselling space.
How I Work
My Approach to Counselling
As an HPCSA Registered Counsellor, I work with individuals, couples, and organisations. While my work is guided by professional frameworks, it is also shaped by the person or couple in front of me. In this way, I focus on understanding people’s experiences and how these influence their thoughts, emotions, and relationships.
Scope of My Work
I work with individuals, couples, pre-marital clients, and organisations. In practice, this includes supporting concerns such as stress, anxiety, burnout, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, fertility-related challenges, and workplace wellbeing.
Therapeutic Orientation
My work draws from solution-focused, person-centred, cognitive behavioural, trauma-aware, attachment-based, systems-informed, and Gottman-informed approaches. Rather than following a rigid method, these approaches are used flexibly, depending on what is most helpful at the time.
Way of Working
Overall, I work in a way that balances structure with openness. While sessions are guided, they are not rigid. Instead, space is made to focus on what feels most important in the moment, while still maintaining a professional and supportive frame.
Who I Work With
Areas of Interest
I work with individuals, couples, pre-marital partners, and organisations. Often, people come to counselling during periods of stress, change, or uncertainty. Sessions focus on understanding what is happening and finding ways forward that feel manageable and supportive.
Individuals
I support individuals working through stress, anxiety, burnout, trauma, grief, body and food-related concerns, and repeated patterns that feel difficult to shift.
Couples & Pre-Marital
I work with couples experiencing conflict, disconnection, or ongoing tension, as well as partners who want to strengthen communication and build a stronger relational foundation.
Organisations
I provide counselling support to organisations, working with employees and teams around stress, trauma, and workplace wellbeing.
